THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES JULY 22 - 29, 2010
THE NEW ENGLAND REGIONALS AUGUST 3 - AUGUST 10, 2010

After four close games in four days, Quincy’s Babe Ruth team for 13-year-olds was eliminated from the state championship series.

A 5-4 loss to Plymouth and a 3-2 loss to Wakefield knocked the Quincy team out of the competition.

“I think a lot of them expected more, but they played some great baseball and should be proud,” Quincy Babe Ruth League President Dick Lombardi said. “There were a couple of sloppy games during the series, but most of the games were pretty well played.”

The coaches for Quincy’s 13-year-old team are Rick Beach, Dave Suslowicz and Sean O’Connor.

In its first game, on Saturday, Quincy beat Taunton, 9-6. On Sunday night, the team beat Norwood, 3-2.

Tonight’s championship game between Plymouth and Wakefield is scheduled for 7:30 at Adams Field in Quincy.

The winner will advance to the New England Regionals in Vermont on Saturday.

The W.P.A. was the Works Progress Administration program.
The ball field was built on land donated to the City of Quincy,in 1885, by Charles Francis Adams II. He was the grandson of President John Quincy Adams (6th President), and the great-grandson of President John Adams (2nd President).
The field was part of a larger gift of 80 acres, known as Merrymount Park.
The dimensions of the field are:

The concession stand/press box was built by the South Shore Building tradesmen,
    bricklayers, plumbers, carpenters, and electricians.
These fine men and women donated their time to build this beautiful building.
The four retired numbers in right field are for deceased players,
